ESPOO, FINLAND - OUTOKUMPU TECHNOLOGY, a leading supplier of plants for the minerals and metals industries, will start marketing the BioHeap bacterial leaching technology of Pacific Ore Ltd. The alliance agreement between Outokumpu Technology and TITAN RESOURCES LTD., was signed this week.

The BioHeap technology complements Outokumpu Technology's expertise in extracting base metals from sulphide ores, including bio-hydrometallurgy. The BioHeap leaching process combined with Outokumpu's ion-exchange, solvent-extraction/electrowinning and other down-stream hydrometallurgical proprietary technologies, can significantly reduce the capital and operating costs. This will facilitate the production of base metals at competitive costs, especially from low-grade deposits that otherwise would not be economic using traditional metallurgical processes. BioHeap has substantial environmental benefits in the form of minimal pollution and low energy consumption.

Pacific Ore is a UK-based, newly-formed holding company for the proprietary BioHeap leaching technology. Titan Resources, a mining and mineral exploration company based in Western Australia, is the major shareholder of Pacific Ore. Outokumpu Technology will participate as a minority shareholder in the company.
