QUEBEC - Last week on Nov. 20, FIRST METALS of Toronto said it had begun shipping ore from its Fabie Bay VMS deposit to a refurbished Horne mill belonging to XSTRATA COPPER. The Fabie Bay deposit contains inferred resources of 672,800 tonnes grading 2.7% Cu. Both the deposit and the mill are located near Rouyn-Noranda.
After six months of work, the Horne mill now has a capacity of 1,700 t/d, although it will be treating an average of 1,500 t/d from the Fabie Bay underground mine. The crushed ore is being trucked 50 km from the mine to the mill.
First Metals next plans to bring the Magusi River deposit, also near Rouyn-Noranda, into production. The deposit has two main lenses. One has inferred resources of 1.2 million tonnes grading 7.1% Zn, 1.9 g/t Au and 29.0 g/t Ag. The other lens has an inferred resource at 838,600 tonnes grading 3.3% Cu, 0.22 g/t Au and 39.0 g/t Ag.
