TENNESSEE Vancouver's HILLSBOROUGH RESOURCES is commissioning its Crossville underground thermal coal mine, with commercial production to begin on Sept. 26. A second continuous miner has been procured, and it will go into production in the first quarter of 2006.
Hillsborough acquired the property from Cumberland Coal and Cumberland Mining in February 2005. The company sold off the surface mining equipment and began preparation for underground development. The output is washed and then sold to a nearby Tennessee Valley Authority power plant.
In British Columbia, the company is drilling to expand reserves at its Quinsam coal mine on Vancouver island. It has an exploration and development program underway for its Five Cabin property and is drilling at its Bickford project, both of which are located near Chetwynd.
