BRITISH COLUMBIA - The British Columbia MINISTRY OF ENERGY & MINES has issued a permit for of the Wolverine coal mine owned by WESTERN CANADIAN COAL (WCC) of Vancouver. The mine is located 23 km from Tumbler Ridge, in the northeastern part of the province.

The company plans to mine 1.6 million tonnes of clean metallurgical coal annually beginning as early as the end of this year. WCC anticipates spending $180 million to develop the Perry Creek pit (one of two planned), coal handling facilities, maintenance and administrative facilities, and an explosives magazine. Work will include upgrading 2.5 km of rail siding and building a new 25-kV power line.

WCC president and CEO Gary Livingstone says the company plans to expand production to an annual rate of 5 million tonnes by 2008. Visit the website at www.WesternCoal.com.
