BRITISH COLUMBIA - HILLSBOROUGH RESOURCES of Vancouver has made a resource estimate for its Bingay Creek metallurgical coal property 21 km north of Elkford. As a result of the 2004 exploration work, a total of 7.56 million tonnes of measured and indicated resources have been identified in the synclinal fold structure, with additional inferred resources of 2.68 million tonnes. Resource figures at this time have only been assigned to the three major coal zones.
With demand for metallurgical coal soaring and the Chinese appetite for steel on the rise, the ranks of British Columbia coal producers are on the rise.
