STOCKHOLM - ATLAS COPCO CRAELIUS has a new, more powerful core drilling rig for deep holes, the Diamec U8. It was created to meet customers' demand for a more productive deep hole rig suitable for both surface and underground exploration.

Diamec U8 is designed to maintain or exceed capacity and reliability requirements in deep hole drilling down to 1,500 metres N size. Ergonomics and safety are also a consideration in the design, providing for safe and comfortable operation and improved rod-handling. The design of Diamec U8 is based on long-term experience from the B20 and Diamec U6 rigs in combination with Atlas Copco's long experience in the exploration field.

Diamec U8 exists in two basic versionsAPC and PHC. The APC version is the third generation of Automatic Performance Controlthe most complete system with self-diagnostic and drill logging on the market. The PHC version is based on a Pilot Hydraulic Control system, which makes higher flows and pressure possible while maintaining a compact and light control console with improved ergonomics and safety.

Diamec U8 can be equipped with either of two different power units; the electric PU 110 E or the diesel-driven PU 150 DT, both suitable for drilling with wireline (B-H) and conventional core barrels.
