On Dec. 26 last year Philippine terrorists attacked a truck carrying 30 members of the local indigenous community killing 13 people, reported TVI PACIFIC. The dead were employees of TVI's Canatuan mine and mill project, contract security guards, and dependent women and children. Another 12 people were injured.
TVI reported that a group of 40 armed men, perhaps MILF rebels, ambushed the truck at about 2:30 p.m. local time about eight kilometers from the mine site. The attackers then fled into the jungle and were pursued by both police and military personnel.
TVI extends its deepest sympathies to the families of those killed and wounded in the attack. It will also provide support to the families of the deceased.
The company is currently commissioning the Au-Ag recovery plant, and those activities were not disrupted. Detailed information on the Canatuan project are found at www.TVIpacific.com
