LAC DE GRAS, Northwest Territories As the official opening of Canada's second diamond nears (ceremonies are planned for July 19), DIAVIK DIAMOND MINES awarded its air transport contracts at the end of last month.

The agreements are with these companies: ARCTIC SUNWEST of Yellowknife to fly employees between Kugluktuk and the mine; NORTHWESTERN AIR LEASE of Fort Smith to service Lutsel K'e, Fort Smith and Fort Resolution; Aboriginal-owned CANADIAN NORTH to provide jet service between Edmonton and the mine; newly-formed TLI CHO AIR to fly employees to and from the mine to the Dogrib communities of Rae/Edzo, Wha Ti, Gametic and Wekweti plus cargo charters from Yellowknife to the mine; and FIRST AIR and BUFFALO AIRWAYS for specialized cargo services.

Diavik's corporate office at 5007 50th Ave, Yellowknife, is open to the public for self-guided tours Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
