QUEBEC - QUEBEC CARTIER MINING of Port-Cartier, Que, has signed a deal with the CANMET ENERGY TECHNOLOGY CENTRE whereby the two will seek ways to substantially reduce energy consumption in the induration furnaces at Quebec Cartier's pellet plant. The project will cost $550,000 but could reduce greenhouse gases by up to 30%.

Quebec Cartier operates the Mt-Wright open pit iron ore mine near Gagnon, Que. Ore is railed to the pellet plant in Port-Cartier, and pellets are shipped by sea to customers around the world.
