TORONTO - The MINING ASSOCIATION OF CANADA (MAC), headquartered in Ottawa, has won the 2005 Industry Association Award for Environmental Performance given by the GLOBE FOUNDATION OF CANADA. The presentation will be made at the foundation's gala luncheon in Toronto on May 27.

The award recognizes environmental leadership in an entire industry. Leadership, to the Globe Foundation, means "going beyond regulatory compliance to develop a collective commitment to improved environmental performance through research, development and education in partnership with governments, non-governmental organizations, communities and other stakeholders."

MAC inaugurated its environmental policy in September 1995. The comprehensive policy is available at www.Mining.ca. All MAC members have adopted the policy and apply it to their projects in Canada and abroad.

The Vancouver-based Globe Foundation (www.Globe.ca) is a private, non-profit organization established in 1992. It organizes a biennial conference and trade fair, education and training initiatives, as well as various projects including its six annual environmental awards.
