CATERPILLAR has updated its 990 Series II to boost productivity, reduce emissions, and lower operating costs. The machines have greater digging forces, improved engine management, a more efficient cooling system, and longer engine oil change intervals. Other improvements enhance serviceability, durability and operator control and comfort.
The Series 990 II is engineered for mining, bulk materials handling and high volume earthmoving. The basic specifications are as follows: Cat 3412E engine with 620 net horsepower, 8.4-9.2-cubic-yard bucket capacities, 16.5 tons rated capacity, 14-ft-3-in dump clearance, 147,179-lb breakout force, and 66-ft-4-in clearance circle in the standard configuration. A high lift version is also available. Spade-edge, straight-edge, heavy-duty, and high-abrasion buckets may be ordered.
