CLEANAIR SYSTEMS of Santa Fe, New Mexico, has received U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration approval for use of its new diesel particulate filter system in underground mines. The CleanAIR Permit FBC filter system reduces particulates without increasing NO2 emissionsthe only product of its kind to do so. The Permit system operates without NO2 production because it uses a new catalyst formation applied to a ceramic filter and a patented fuel-borne catalyst. A special precious metal coating is also employed. The new filter is also self-cleaning (passive regeneration) at normal exhaust temperatures.
