SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC is now offering an ultra-compact programmable controller with features usually found only in larger PLCs. The company calls it the Telemecanique Twido. It is designed for small- and medium-sized systems with between 10 and 200 I/O. Schneider says it is suited for commercial and industrial users and machine builders using standard designs.

Twido comes in two versions: compact or modular.

The Compact Twido PLC is intended for simple stand-alone installations such as automatic doors, pumps, and lighting systems. This easy-to-install unit comes with a power supply, processor and 10, 16 or 24 I/O in an enclosure the size of a half-litre milk carton. It can be programmed with up to 2,500 list instructions.

The Modular Twido PLC is designed for repetitive machines such as gantries, lifts, palletizers, compressors and industrial washing machines. It has a program capacity of up to 8,000 list instructions.

Both models are programmed with TwidoSoft software. Options include a built-in display screen, memory cartridges, a real-time clock, and communication adapters.
