AURIZON MINES has raised $7 million from the sale of flow-through shares and has earmarked the money for an underground exploration project at the Casa Berardi gold mine near LaSarre, Que. The total cost of this bulk sampling program will be $17 million, spread over 19 months.

The present ramp in the West mine area will be deepened to the 500-m level. Drifting over 450 metres to sample the 113 zone is included. The company is considering additional drifting, definition drilling and sampling of the Lower Inter zone.

Aurizon acquired a 100% interest in the Casa Berardi property from TVX Gold in 1998. The mine produced 688,000 oz of gold between 1988 and 1997. There is a 2,200 tonnes per day mill on the site. Aurizon is hopeful it can reopen the mine and resume production.
