ONTARIO – One recent milestone in the construction of the Detour Lake open pit gold mine 185 km northeast of Cochrane was connecting the 230 kW electrical power transmission line to the grid on July 19, says owner Detour Gold of Toronto. With power supplied to the site, the full commissioning of the grinding mills will start as planned before year end.

The entire project remains on time and on budget. The budget is unchanged at $1.45 billion. Construction has reached the 75% complete mark, and the number of workers at the mine site is now 1,550. Detour also has more than 279 of its own employees at the site and in its Cochrane office. About 10 million tonnes of material has been pre-stripped from the pit in preparation for production in Q1 2013.

As production grows nearer, Detour Gold has launched a new website at DetourGold.com. The company says it is easier to navigate than the old one and users will enjoy quick access to key online content.
