HAWTHORNE, Nevada METALLIC VENTURES GOLD of Toronto has announced plans to reopen the Esmeralda gold mine in western Nevada. Full production from a 350-tons/day CIL mill is expected early in 2004. Previously, the mine produced 125,702 oz of gold and 265,927 oz of silver from 1987 to 1998.
Metallic Ventures acquired the property in March 2000 and began a systematic exploration effort. Work is concentrated on the Martinez, Humboldt-Hilton and Prospectus deposits. Measured and indicated resources total 30.7 million tonnes at 0.031 opt Au, for a total of over 950,000 contained ounces. Details of the Esmeralda geology can be read at www.metallicventuresgold.com.
The company hopes to become a mid-tier North American gold producer by focusing on past gold producers in Nevada.
