NORTHWESTERN QUEBEC - Development of the Midway gold project, located west of Val d'Or, is on schedule, says NORTHERN STAR MINING. The property includes the former Malartic Goldfields mine that produced over 2.0 million oz of gold.

The surface construction and mine access are completed. The service tunnel from the hoist building, the hoist and the compressors are operational. The main transformer is working and the electrical grid at the site is complete. The hoist, a 10-ft diameter double-drum Nordberg model, has been installed, but the direct drive system has yet to be hooked up.

Northern Star is dewatering the existing 2,700-ft shaft and underground workings to access the mineralization. Dewatering has reached 355 ft, and the manway shaft compartment is functional to the 150-ft level.

The company prides itself on its low-cost approach to the Midway mine. All the installation, engineering, shaft rehabilitation, mining and exploration activities are being carried out by employees of Northern Star. The June 2004 technical report about the Midway project is available at www.NSMgold.com.
