BAIE VERTE, Nfld. CORNERSTONE CAPITAL RESOURCES has picked up the El Strato gold prospect in the northwestern part of the province. It covers 120 claims acquired through three separate options with local prospectors and by direct staking.

El Strato is adjacent to the Baie Verte Line, separating the polydeformed rocks of the Humber Zone from sequences of ophiolitic, volcanics and sedimentary rocks of the Baie Verte Belt. Exploration associated with the Baie Verte Line in the late 1980s uncovered the Pine Cove, Nugget Pond and Stog'er Tight deposits. Cornerstone is optimistic, saying that the gold mineralization and alteration along the Baie Verte Line resemble those of the rich, historical Mother-Lode Belt in California.

Exploration targets at El Strato include high-grade shear-hosted quartz-carbonate vein systems and low-sulphidation, epithermal-style alteration systems associated with Silurian subaerial felsic volcanics. The El Strato outcrop, in the southern part of the property, yielded a channel sample that graded 240 g/t Au over 0.5 m. Showings in the northern part of the property returned channel samples of 1.87 g/t over 11.0 m and diamond drill core that assayed 1.01 g/t over 10.6 m.

Cornerstone has finished compiling the results of previous work done on the property and has identified several targets for follow-up. Keep abreast of the company's progress at www.cornerstoneresources.com.
