GOLD MINING: Aurizon posts record gold output

VANCOUVER - Aurizon Mines posted record gold output during 2011 - 163,845 oz, up 16% over 2010 - and it plans to produce between 155,000 and 160,000 oz of gold this year. Its flagship asset is the Casa Berardi mine 95 km north of La Sarre, QC.

VANCOUVER - Aurizon Mines posted record gold output during 2011 - 163,845 oz, up 16% over 2010 - and it plans to produce between 155,000 and 160,000 oz of gold this year. Its flagship asset is the Casa Berardi mine 95 km north of La Sarre, QC.

Aurizon plans to spend $71 million at Casa Berardi to continue the West mine shaft deepening, buy equipment and build infrastructure. The shaft is going down to the 1,080-metre level from the 760-metre level. It will be completed before the end of this year. Exploration expenses at Casa Berardi are $9.4 million including 88,000 metres of drilling.

The company is also spending $2.3 million for metallurgical testing of material from the Joanna project 20 km east of Rouyn-Noranda, QC, and another $3.6 million to drill 24,500 metres. Another $9.7 is to be spent on exploration at Aurizon's other properties.
