ONTARIO - Vancouver's GOLDCORP is integrating the operation of two veteran mines in northern Ontario. Its Red Lake mine and the recently acquired Campbell mine will be connected underground during the third quarter of 2006. That will allow management of the two properties to become one. Gold production this year will hit 825,000 oz.

Goldcorp began sinking a new, 2,180-metre-deep shaft at the Red Lake mine in February 2003. The goal is to increase hoisting capacity to 3,600 tonnes/day at the same time the cost of hoisting is lowered significantly. The new shaft is part of an expansion originally estimated to cost US$85.0 million.
