CADILLAC, Quebec AGNICO-EAGLE MINES of Toronto has reported that a contract miner was killed as a result of an explosion at the LaRonde gold mine. The explosion occurred approximately 10:40 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 3, in the course of loading a work area with explosives. The deceased was employed by an underground drilling and cabling contractor.

Agnico-Eagle has extended its sincere condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased.

Underground production has temporarily been scaled back to 5,000 tons per day pending inspection by local authorities. Mill operations are not affected. For further information contact David Garofalo, VP finance and CFO at 416-947-1212.
