BRITISH COLUMBIA NORTHGATE EXPLORATION's Kemess South mining team set a new quarterly record for tonnes mined of almost 147,000 tonnes/day. That represents an increase in productivity to 875 tonnes/person-shift.

The mill, too, set new records for availability and ore throughput in March. It treated 52,229 tonnes/day with an availability of 93.5%. First quarter mill availability was over 92%.

The best news is that unit mining costs during the first quarter of 2004 dropped to $0.84/tonne mined, a 12% decrease from a year earlier. The mine and mill produced 51,500 oz of Au at a cash cost of $202/oz on a full absorption basis or $163/oz under the Gold Institute methodology. Copper production for Q1 2004 was 17.7 million lb, compared with 17.15 million lb in the first three months of 2003.

Congratulations can be expressed to Northgate president and CEO Ken Stowe at 416-216-2772.
