BRITISH COLUMBIA - Vancouver's CROSS LAKE MINERALS has begun underground development and mining of the Midwest zone at its QR mine 58 km southeast of Quesnel. Development of the Midwest zone was completed from 1994 to 1998 when KINROSS GOLD operated the project. Cross Lake completed the rehabilitation of the underground workings last fall.

Previously mill feed had been mined exclusively from the Northwest zone pit. Mining continues from the pit, and the two ores are blended before being processed.

Cross Lake says that mill operations are showing improvement. Poorer performance was experienced earlier this year while the pit wall was pushed back and only stockpiled ore was available for milling.

The company is considering underground development of the North zone. Surface infill drilling and a bulk sample are planned.

Maps and photos of the QR mine are posted at www.CrossLakeMinerals.com.
