QUEBEC METSO MINERALS of Helsinki, Finland, has launched a new high-capacity Vertimill model that will be built at its recently acquired plant in the Montreal suburb of Lachine.

In comparison to ball mills, the Vertimill can perform the same grind with 30% to 50% less energy and significantly lower grinding media consumption, according to the manufacturer. Furthermore, the machine has fewer moving parts than a ball mill, translating into lower maintenance and operating costs. The new Vertimill can be built in comparable lead times to smaller Vertimills and in considerably shorter lead times compared to traditional ball mills.

Vertimills are particularly suited for regrind applications where very fine product sizes are desirable. The new, larger model, with its 3,000 hp motor and increased capacity, can reduce the number of mills required in a particular circuit.
