LONDON, U.K. – The International Council on Mining & Metals is seeking comments from interested organizations and individuals on the updated text of its Indigenous Peoples and Mining Good Practice Guide. Comments will be accepted until March 12, 2015.
The Indigenous Peoples and Mining Good Practice Guide was updated following the publication of ICMM’s revised Indigenous Peoples and Mining Position Statement that articulates a progressive set of commitments that applies to all ICMM member companies. Like the earlier version of the guide, the draft of the updated guidance document is intended as a good practice resource for mining companies and others with an interest in ensuring that mining projects bring long term mutual benefits to companies and host communities.
Download the draft in your choice of English or Spanish: Indigenous Peoples and Mining Good Practice Guide (.doc in English) or Guía de buenas prácticas: los pueblos indígenas y la minería (.doc in Spanish)
ICMM will accept comments as edits to the above documents or as a separate document submitted via email to gpgfeedback@icmm.com.

I was Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Informal Miners-APRI. APRI members approximately 2 million miner. Gold miner is the most widely. Currently, gemstone miners is rapidly growing in number. More less 70% of informal miners in Indonesia perform activities in forest areas.
In Indonesia is still very small presence of a positive relation between a large mining company with an informal artisanal mining. Often conflicts are very detrimental to both sides, but certainly informal miners and communities most losses. Usually the government and security forces more aligned to a large company.
Currently, APRI working hard to lobby the government to be able to legalize informal mining, so they are not categorized as illegal miners. Informal mining should be fostered by the government. With the legalization of informal mining, I’m sure the people will come out of poverty, the environment will be better, and the relationship between government and the people would be better.
