SANTIAGO, Chile CODELCO is in the midst of expanding production at its El Teniente copper mine. By 2005 production will reach about 450,000 tonnes of copper. To keep underground work going smoothly, the owner has purchased a MacLEAN ENGINEERING MME 993 secondary reduction jumbo for the mine.

The MEM 993 is a self-contained, single-person unit that drills and breaks oversize muck and rock. The MacLean technology, which employs high-pressure water jets, is safer than older ones using explosives. Greater productivity and lesser cost are possible with the MEM 993, compared with conventional equipment and using explosives. The MEM 993 also features wireless control and a video system for remote operation.

MacLean vehicles are sold in Chile by P&H MinePro Services. See the full line of MEM equipment at www.macleanengineering.com.
