TRAIL, British Columbia TECK COMINCO of Vancouver has reported that an explosion inside the Kivcet lead furnace occurred at 6:45 p.m., Monday, Feb. 2. No employees were injured.
The explosion caused extensive damage to the boiler system; however, the lead furnace appears to be intact. An estimate of the extent of the damage, cost of repair and the time required for repair will not be available for several days, until a full investigation has been completed.
Teck Cominco has enough lead on hand to maintain supplies to customers for at least two weeks. Zinc production is not affected. Look for further news at www.teckcominco.com.
