VANCOUVER, British Columbia Backstopped by the UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA and supported by the CIM and INFO-MINE, EDUMINE has made its debut at www.edumine.com. It promises a new level of life-long learning for everyone involved in mineral production through courses offered on the Internet and in the summer at UBC.
In these days of fewer employees and higher expectations, workers are being encouraged to cross-train so they can perform more tasks proficiently. But taking time away from the mine site, particularly remote ones, is not always an option. Learning a large number of skills without time-consuming travel is an attractive alternative.
Students who successfully complete EduMine on-line, classroom and project-based studies will receive a Certificate in Mining Studies from UBC. The classroom and project-based portions of the courses are given by the UBC Summer Institute. The EduMine experience combines the self-learning style of the Internet with the peer-review and mentoring advantages of the classroom.
