KIRKLAND LAKE, Ontario – Nordex Explosives has completed extensive development and positive field testing of the Scorpion underground loader systems, a robotic arm bulk emulsion explosives loader. The Scorpion is a proprietary system designed, built and owned by Nordex that allows for a safer and more cost effective method of delivering exclusive Normite bulk emulsion products to the blast hole.

The Scorpion comes with a complete underground carrier, robotic loading arm and in-system camera so operators can maintain a safe distance from the rock face and blast area.

An extended period of field testing and objective comparisons to competitive units by Nordex and existing customers has demonstrated the superiority of the Scorpion, says the manufacturer. In particular, the results in up-hole loading applications using specially formulated Nordex emulsion products exceeded expectations. Nordex has invested considerable resources and dedicated over 18 months of ongoing development time to achieve these results.

The Scorpion became commercially viable in January and accordingly Nordex started to receive a return on investments from this project during Q1 2014.

The Scorpion is compatible with the quality control philosophies of Nordex whereby all products are blended and mixed at the production facility and not out in the field. The Nordex philosophy was developed to guarantee the consistency and quality of its products.

Further information on the Scorpion can be viewed on the Nordex website NordexExplosives.com/index.php?nav=122&page=110.
