BRISBANE, Australia LEICA GEOSYSTEMS of Norcross, Georgia, has bought up the Australian company TRITRONICS, whose specialty is automating and managing open pit mining fleets. The acquisition gives Leica the opportunity to sell its mining and surveying products in Australia and expands its presence to open pit management.

"Tritronics is a world leader in the design, development and installation of mine machine monitoring and information systems," said Leica Geosystems president and CEO Hans Hess. "The add-on acquisition of Tritronics will strengthen our presence in the rapidly expanding global machine automation solutions business in both the mining and construction markets."

Tritronics is a privately owned company founded in 1975. Its flagship product is a dragline monitoring system. It also offers monitoring systems for haulage trucks, loaders, shovels, dozers, and drill rigs. Its equipment is installed at 42 mines in four countries. Visit www.tritro.com.au.
