The expanded Sigma-Lamaque gold mill in Val-d'Or, Que., is again treating ore. The owner, McWATTERS MINING, reports that all construction work necessary to reach 5,000 tonnes/day by the end of next year is complete. The facility is now operating 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
The increased throughput will cut cash operating costs to below US$200 per ounce and boost annual production to 100,000 oz Au.
The mill was run-in using low-grade stockpiled ore at a rate of 3,000 t/d. Capacity will reach commercial levels of 4,000 t/d early in 2003, and continue to increase to 5,000 t/d during the fourth quarter.
