SURINAME - Montreal's CAMBIOR INC. reports that throughput at its Rosebel mill has been reduced due to a leak in a thickener foundation. The leak was contained within safety berms and ponds, and the thickener was emptied into the tailings pond. The event had no environmental impact, thanks to the excellent response from the operators, Cambior president Louis Gignac told a conference call. Milling was temporarily suspended.

It could take a month or two to analyze the leak and repair it. In the meantime, the thickener has been bypassed. Grinding mill slurry will report directly to the leaching circuit, which cuts both the mill throughput and recovery rate. The mill will be running at about 80% of its 20,000- to 21,000-tonnes/day capacity and recovery will fall to about 91% rather than 94%.

More information about the Rosebel mine is available at www.Cambior.com.
