Oyvind Hushvod has been named to the board of Gabriel Resources. Mr. Hushovd is a retired mining executive having most recently been president and CEO of Falconbridge from 1996 to 2002.


The NWT & Nunavut Chamber of mines has elected a new board of directors at its annual general meeting of the NWT & Nunavut Chamber of Mines held Nov. 21 in Yellowknife. Former president Jim Excell of BHP-Billiton's Ekati Diamonds, has stepped down as president but remains on the board as does John McConnell of De Beers Canada Mining. Bernadette Stewart of Braden Burry Expediting is the new president of the organization. The board includes, among others, Bill Burton (manager of the Lupin mine), John Stard (manager of the Con mine), and Bob Gilroy (manager of the Cantung mine). The position of senior vice-president, marketing and business development, at Cameco Corp. will be filled by George Assie beginning Jan. 1, 2003. He has recently been president at Cameco Inc. in the United States and will be returning to Saskatoon to take up his new job.
