CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sudbury native Gary Halverson has been removed as president and CEO of Cliffs Natural Resources. The move comes following a rancorous proxy battle won by New York hedge fund Casablanca Capital at the end of July 2014.

Before joining Cliffs, Halverson had been interim COO of Barrick Gold, and before that worked for Kinross Gold as general manager at the Hoyle Pond and Dome gold mines in Timmins, ON.

Casablanca Capital has shaken up the board at Cliffs and installed its nominee, Lourence Goncalves, as president and chairman of the board. Read his message to shareholders by clicking here.
