MINING PEOPLE IN THE NEWS: Anglo American, Argentex, Barrick and Excellon

Vancouver-based Argentex Mining has appointed Mark Vanry its executive VP of corporate development. This is a newly created role for the former Canaccord Adams employee.

 

As part of the efforts to streamline its organization, Barrick Gold of Toronto has assigned the various functions under organizational effectiveness to other existing departments. As a result, Gordon Fife, executive VP of organizational effectiveness, will be leaving Barrick effective July 31, 2009. Information technology will be the responsibility of executive VP and CFO Jamie Sokalsky, and supply chain management will be the responsibility of Peter Kinver, executive VP and COO. The human resources and continuous improvement functions will now be led by Don Ritz, who will be appointed VP, safety and leadership development. The company also announced that Alex Davidson, executive VP, exploration and corporate development, has decided to retire, effective Aug. 31, 2009, after a long and successful career in the mining business. His responsibilities for corporate development will be assumed by Darren Blasutti, senior VP, corporate development, and the exploration function will continue to be led by Rob Krcmarov, senior VP for global exploration.

 

Excellon Resources of Toronto has made Andre Douchane its new president and CEO. He is also president and CEO of Starfield Resources, chairman and former president and CEO of North American Palladium, and is a director of Osisko Exploration.
