AVALON VENTURES of Toronto has named Dr. William Mercer to the position of VP exploration. A former-president of the PDAC, he spent 24 years with Noranda, then Falconbridge and finally Xstrata.
Paul A. Korpi has accepted the role of VP and COO at Toronto-based CENTERRA GOLD. He joined Centerra in 2004 as VP operations at the Boroo gold mine.
Torontos EQUINOX MINERALS has named Peter Tomsett as non-executive chairman. He was president and CEO of Placer Dome until that company was taken over by Barrick Gold in January 2006.
FIELDEX EXPLORATION of Rouyn-Noranda, Que., has tapped Jean-Pierre Landry to sit on its board of directors. He is construction manager for Goldcorp and is responsible for the Elonore gold project.
Dr. David Bailey has signed on with GWR RESOURCES of Vancouver to oversee the exploration of the Lac La Hache project.
METALCORP LIMITED of Thunder Bay, Ont., has named Naomi Nemeth an independent director. She is presently VP of investor relations for African Copper, and before that she held the same position at Wolfden Resources until it was acquired by Zinifex and at Desert Sun Mining until it was taken over by Yamana Gold last year.
Toronto-based PELANGIO MINES has a new VP exploration, Warren Bates. Previously he held the same position at St Andrew Goldfields.
TECK COMINCO of Vancouver has named Tim Watson its senior VP project development. A graduate of the University of British Columbia, he was the COO of AMECs power and process division.
Robert Boyd has joined the board of Vancouver-based TRUE NORTH GEMS. He is currently a director of the PDAC and the Association for Mineral Exploration BC. He is a former-president and CEO of Ashton Mining of Canada and was also formerly VP Exploration for Homestake Canada.
WILDCAT EXPLORATION of Winnipeg has appointed John L. Knowles as president and CEO. He spent much of his career on the management team at HudBay Minerals and was CFO of Aur Resources.
