AVALON VENTURES of Toronto has appointed Peter McCarter to its board of directors. He was executive VP at Aur Resources until it was acquired earlier this year by Teck Cominco.
Patrick Soares is the new president and CEO of Vancouver-based BRETT RESOURCES. He replaces Thomas Hasek, who will continue to sit on the board. The company also announced the appointment of David M. Stone to the position of VP.
Ron Caldwell, a long-time employee of the MINING ASSOCIATION OF BRITISH COLUMBIA in Vancouver, has won the B.C. Lieutenant Governor's Award for Excellence in Safety.
Vancouver's NEW GOLD has named Ron Allum the general manager for its New Afton gold-copper project. He has headed successful block caving operations at the San Manuel copper mine in Arizona and the Questa molybdenum mine in New Mexico.
The NWT & NUNAVUT CHAMBER OF MINES has announced its new executive: president Lou Covello of Yellowknife; VP Nunavut John Laitin of Miramar Mining in Vancouver; VP NWT Trevor Teed, of Whitebeach Point Exploration in Yellowknife; secretary Richard Morland of BHP Billiton's Ekati diamond mine; and treasurer Gord Clark of North Arrow Minerals in Yellowknife. Two new board members were also elected: Barry McCallum of Areva Resources in Saskatoon and Jon Jaque of Cascom Ltd. in Yellowknife.
Grant Ewing, formerly of Linear Metals, has accepted the position of CEO at STACCATO GOLD of Vancouver.
