Toronto-based BARRICK GOLD has strengthened its development team. John McDonough has been named VP Chile & Argentina, and he will focus on the Veladero and Pascua-Lama projects as well as managing the regional business unit. Ron Kettles is now the project director at Pascua-Lama; he was most recently president of Bechtel in Brazil. George Potter, formerly of Ashanti, is the new VP of capital projects, and as such he will oversee scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility and development of new mines.
INMET MINING of Toronto its enlarging its senior management team at the ayeli copper/zinc mine in Turkey. John Sanders becomes managing director effective Nov. 1. He will also direct the development of the Cerattepe copper project. Kimmo Luukkonen has joined the ayeli team as manager of mine operations. Previously he worked on the development of a new orebody at Inmet's Pyhasalmi copper/zinc mine in Finland.
John Hogg has joined Vancouver-based WESTERN CANADIAN COAL as its VP and COO. Most recently he was VP and general manager of Westshore Terminal. The company further announced the Charles Pitcher (COO) and Kevin James (VP exploration) have resigned their posts, although Pitcher will remain a non-executive director.
