Mike Hoffman, P.Eng., will join Toronto-based DESERT SUN MINING CORP. as vice-president, strategic development, in mid-September 2005. His primary responsibilities will be to facilitate the planned expansion of gold production at Desert Sun's Jacobina mine in Brazil and to build a strategic development program for the company. Most recently Hoffman was vice-president, projects for Goldcorp Inc., where he was responsible for expansion planning for Goldcorp's flagship Red Lake mine in northern Ontario.

Montreal-based DIA BRAS EXPLORATION INC. has appointed Dr. Thomas L. Robyn as chairman and CEO of the company. The post of chairman was formerly held by Philip Renaud.

R.J. (Jim) Brown, CA, has been appointed as vice-president and CFO of the FORDING CANADIAN COAL TRUST based in Calgary, effective October 3, 2005. Brown will also be appointed vice-president and CFO of the ELK VALLEY COAL PARTNERSHIP by its managing partner, Teck Cominco Coal Partnership. He will replace Ron Millos, who is returning to TECK COMINCO LTD. as senior vice-president, finance and CFO to take the place of John Taylor, who is retiring. Brown brings over 28 years of senior financial experience primarily in the oil and gas industry, most recently as vice-president, finance and CFO of High Point Resources Inc.

Effective October 1, 2005, Anita L. Roncin will become vice-president, finance and CFO of GRANDE CACHE COAL CORP., based in Calgary. Roncin currently serves as controller of the company. She will replace Thomas E. Pierce, who will be leaving the corporation.

SHERWOOD MINING CORP. has appointed Stephen P. Quin, P.Geo., as president and CEO effective September 1, 2005. Quin is an experienced exploration geologist and corporate executive, coming to Sherwood after 15 years with Miramar Mining Corp., where he was executive vice-president responsible for exploration, corporate development and investor relations. Bruce McLeod will be assuming the role of executive chairman of the board at Sherwood, which is part of the Vancouver-based Northair group of companies.

SUR AMERICAN GOLD CORP. of Vancouver has appointed Nigel Maund as vice-president exploration. Maund is a graduate of the University of London and holds BSc (Hons), MSc and DIC degrees in Geology as well as an MBA from Cranfield University - Business School, UK. He will be based in the Philippines where he will be involved in the 9,000-ha Comval copper-gold porphyry project, and will also assume responsibility for all geological work at the 2,700-ha T'boli gold-silver epithermal project.
