DULUTH METALS of Toronto has named Dean M. Peterson is new senior VP exploration, effective Oct. 1, 2008. He is one of the pre-eminent authorities on the Duluth Complex in Minnesota where the company continues to investigate its Nokomis polymetallic deposit.

Four new directors have been appointed to the board of Toronto's HIGH RIVER GOLD. They are Robert Buchan, founder of Kinross Gold; Terrence Lyons, chairman of Northgate Minerals; Stephen Polakoff, general counsel for a Russian oil services and equipment company; and Murray Sinclair, a founder of the Quest Group. Lyons has been elected chairman.

KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD has named Mark Tessier its VP operations in Kirkland Lake, Ont. A graduate of the Haileybury School of Mines and Queen's University, he oversaw the expansion of Goldcorp's Red Lake mine between 1999 and 2006.

James Excell is stepping down from his role as president and CEO of NORTH AMERICAN PALLADIUM to make way for William J. Biggar, effective Oct. 1, 2008. Biggar has been a senior VP at Barrick Gold and the Horsham Corp., and has 10 years experience as an investment banker. He is the holder of an MBA from the University of Toronto.
