FORDING CANADIAN COAL TRUST today announced that, following the successful integration of operations under a new corporate structure, Jim Gardiner is retiring as CEO and president of the ELK VALLEY COAL PARTNERSHIP and ELK VALLEY COAL CORP., and as president of the Trust and FORDING INC., effective Feb. 29, 2004. Jim Popowich, who currently serves as executive VP responsible for the operations of the Partnership, is appointed CEO of the Partnership and Elk Valley Coal Corp.
Vancouver-based COMMANDER RESOURCES announced that Kenneth Leigh is joining the company as president and director beginning Feb. 9. Leigh played an important role in discovering reserves for the Teck Cominco's Polaris mine and in other exploration projects in the Arctic. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the University of Western Ontario.
Effective Feb. 1, Richard Gosse will be the new VP exploration for Vancouver's ASIA GOLD. He previously worked for Anglo American and BHP Billiton in China and India.
LYSANDER MINERALS of Vancouver and CANDEN CAPITAL, also of Vancouver, announced the sudden death of their president Arthur T. Fisher on Jan. 23. Donald K. Mustard will assume the title of interim president at Lysander until the company's next annual meeting.
