Jim Popowich has been elevated to the position of president at Calgary-based FORDING CANADIAN COAL TRUST. He is also president and CEO of ELK VALLEY COAL, that has named two new vice-presidents, Bill Fleming (projects) and Jim Jones (employee relegations and corporate secretary). Fleming's mandate includes development of the Cheviot Creek pit near Hinton, Alta.
MAJESCOR RESOURCES of Montreal has announced that Jacques Letendre has stepped down as president to focus on the technical aspects and supervision of the company's exploration projects. The role of CEO and chairman will be filled by Andre Audet.
Toronto's SLAM EXPLORATION has a new CEO, Dr. John A. Hansuld. He is a former president of the PDAC (1993-96), The Northern Miner's 1988 Mining Man of the Year, the PDAC's Developer of the Year in 1989 and winner of its Distinguished Service Award in 1997. He was also a founding member of the Association of Exploration Geochemists and its second president. His professional experience includes exploration and mine development in Canada, the United States, Latin America and Russia.
