The Premier of BRITISH COLUMBIA has performed a minor cabinet shuffle, appointing Bill Bennett as Minister of State for Mining. Greg Reimer has moved from finance into the position of Deputy Minister. Richard Neufeld remains Minister of Energy and Mines in the province.

John Cumming has been promoted to editor of THE NORTHERN MINER in Toronto. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the position. He holds a BSc in Geology from Carleton University and an MSc in Geology from the University of Windsor, and has worked at The Northern Miner for more than seven years.

UC RESOURCES of Vancouver has named Richard Hamelin its new president & CEO. Previously, he worked for Kidd Creek Mines and in the financial sector. Carl von Einsiedel has been appointed the company's new VP of exploration.

Mike Basha is now the VP of exploration at CORNERSTONE CAPITAL RESOURCES of Mount Pearl, Nfld. He has over 15 years experience as a consulting geologist before joining Cornerstone in 2002.

Following its recent annual meeting, Vancouver-based EMGOLD MINING made the following appointments: William J. Witte as president & CEO; Ian Chang as VP project development; and Shannon Ross as CFO & secretary. Also, John King Burns was named non-executive chairman to replace Frank A. Lang, who remains a director of the company.

Toronto's FIRST NICKEL has named Myron McCormick as the new manager at its Lockerby nickel mine near Sudbury. He began his career as an underground miner at Inco and later rose through more senior supervisory positions at Falconbridge and Canadian Mining and Development. Paul Davis has been appointed the company's VP of exploration. He has been involved in six new nickel sulphide discoveries in Ontario and has international experience in Finland and Australia.
