NORTH AMERICAN PALLADIUM of Toronto has named James Excell as its president & CEO effective Jan. 1, 2006. He takes over the reins from Andr Douchane who steps up to the chairman's position. Excell served as chairman of BHP Billiton Diamonds until the end of June 2005. During his three-decades-plus with BHP Billiton, he managed and developed projects such as the Ekati diamond mine in the Northwest Territories, the Island copper mine in British Colombia as well as coal mines in Australia and the United States. He graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1972 with a BSc in metallurgical engineering.
Malcolm Macpherson has joined the board of Toronto-based TITANIUM CORP. He is also CEO of Iluka Resources, the world's largest combined titanium and zircon mineral producer.
EXALL RESOURCES of Toronto has added Derek Rance to its board of directors. He was formerly on the board, but stepped down to help lead Gold Eagle Mines. Since Exall's Gold Eagle project will not be spun off, Rance rejoins the board.
Andrew Milligan has been named chairman of Vancouver-based OREMEX RESOURCES. He replaces Anthony Harvey, who remains on the board. Milligan is a former president and CEO of Glamis Gold Corp.
Calgary's WESTERN OIL SANDS has announced a number of appointments to become effective on Jan. 1, 2006. John Frangos will step down as executive VP and COO to be replaced by Steve Reynish, presently senior VP mining. Frangos will remain an advisor to the board. Gerry Luft, who has been responsible for marketing, will become VP downstream. Simon Hatfield, as VP and managing director, will add business development efforts to his duties.
