Beginning the first of the year, Glenn Baldwin will be the mine general manager at the Messina platinum mine of SOUTHERNERA RESOURCES of Toronto. He graduated from the University of Southern Australia and was most recently mine manager at Anglo Platinum's Boschfontein East mine in South Africa. Stan Westcott, the former manager at Messina, is retiring.

Toronto-based ZARUMA RESOURCES has named Dr. Richard Viljoen as VP exploration. He brings to the post over 30 years' experience in exploration and economic geology.

Cavalcanti Hume Funfer of Toronto and Calgary is the new investor relations counsel for Vancouver-based TYHEE DEVELOPMENT CORP. Tyhee has interests in two gold prospects near Yellowknife.

COREX GOLD CORP. of Vancouver has added Patrick Downey to its board of directors. He is also the president and CEO of Viceroy Exploration. Also, Rod McKeen has become the new Corex corporate secretary.

Dinesh C. Paliwal, ABB Group executive, is adding the role of president, ABB INC. to his responsibilities on January 1. He succeeds Donald Aiken who will retire at the end of January.

CATTRON-THEIMEG has named David Doxtater as quality director. He is a graduate of University of Southern California at Northridge and holds certification in Total Quality Management and other professional certifications.

Oyvind Hushvod has joined the CAMECO CORP. board. He is currently the chairman and CEO of Gabriel Resources and previously held the position of president and CEO at Falconbridge.

Now that its takeover of Pechiney is complete, Montreal-based ALCAN INC. has made these executive changes: Travis Engin, president & CEO; Brian Sturgel, executive VP; Richard (Dick) Evans, executive VP; Geoffery Merszei, executive VP & CFO; Gaston Ouellet, senior VP human resources; David McAusland, senior VP mergers & acquisitions and chief legal officer; and Daniel Gagnier, senior VP corporate & external affairs (includes functional responsibility for environment, health and safety). The following people will lead the company's six business groups (as both senior VP of Alcan and president & CEO of the businesses): Michael Hanley, Alcan Bauxite and Alumina; Cynthia Carroll, Alcan Primary Metal; Martha Finn Brooks, Alcan Rolled Products Americas and Asia; Christopher Bark-Jones, Alcan Rolled Products Europe; Michel Jacques, Alcan Engineered Products; and Christel Bories, Alcan Packaging.
