Moving to Fort McMurray, Alta., in July 2003 to head up the oil sands operations, is Steve Williams, currently SUNCOR ENERGY's VP of corporate development and CFO. He will take over from Mike Ashar, who is relocating to Denver, Colo., to lead Suncor's new downstream business in the United States.

SEARCHGOLD RESOURCES has hired a new mine manager, Kurbon Atadjanov, for its Mandala diamond project in Guinea. Alain Vezina has taken over investor relations duties for the company in Montreal. SearchGold built its 450-t/day diamond recovery plant in Montreal and shipped it to the Mandala site. It has arrived and permanent installation is in progress.

The CANADIAN COPPER & BRASS DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION has re-elected Jacques Adam (Nexans Canada) as its president for a second term. Other members of the executive are senior VP I.L. Betcherman (Ingot Metal Co.), and secretary-treasurer J.D. Coulton (Noranda). Stephen Knapp is the new executive director of the association.

Hans von Michaelis is the latest board member appointed at FREEGOLD VENTURES. Since 1977 he has been the president of Randol International.

Jean-Charles Potvin, CEO of Tiomin Resources from 1993 to 2001, has been named to the board of SULLIDEN EXPLORATION.

OLYMPUS PACIFIC MINERALS has named Joseph Baylis its new president and CEO. He will also sit on the board of directors. Baylis' appointment was effective April 24.

Brian J. Groves, formerly of Placer Dome, is now president and CEO of TEMEX RESOURCES. Groves has been involved internationally in exploration for coal, gold and base metals.
