From knowledgeable reader Raymond Hietapakka comes this comment on the effect of rising gasoline prices: "About one-third of the cost of the food you eat is directly attributable to the gasoline and diesel fuel for the tractors in the field and the semi [tractor-trailer] that hauls it to the local Piggly-Wiggly."
