NEW BRUNSWICK The hunt for new deposits in this province is heating up. Whether for precious or base metals, companies are scouring the rocks with encouraging results.
SLAM EXPLORATION of Miramichi, N.B., and joint venture partner NORANDA of Toronto have awarded a one-year contract for 10,000 metres of drilling in the Bathurst camp. The diamond drilling will initially test results derived from the recently completed airborne survey covering 22,400 line-km of MegaTEM. Analysis of the airborne survey results to date has identified more than 200 anomalies that could yield sulphide deposits that have not been previously or sufficiently tested by diamond drilling. Gold is the target for Calgary-based STRATABOUND MINERALS on its Elmtree property in the northeastern part of the province. The program will include drilling, trenching and sampling of the West Gabbro and Discovery zones and other large untested geochemical/geophysical targets. The company believes that a portion of the currently known mineralization may be amenable to open pit development if metallurgy indicates reasonable recoveries, and that the property presents exceptional opportunities for new discoveries. FIRST NARROWS RESOURCES of Vancouver has announced it is finding gold in the drill core from the Golden Ridge property in the southern part of the province. Drill hole GR-04-15 intersected 26.83 metres averaging 1.61 g/t Au including 3.3 metres that assayed 3.04 g/t Au. A composite sample of drill core is being prepared to study the feasibility of producing a bulk gold/sulphide concentrate averaging at least 75 g/t gold from the low sulphide No.1 Zone mineralization. The Golden Ridge property is owned by FREEWEST RESOURCES, and First Narrows is in the process of earning up to a 50% interest. (www.FirstNarrows.com)
