NEW POLL – Would you mind living near a mine?

In response to polls we have run recently, one reader suggested that a community's acceptance of a mine may depend on the commodity being mined. Therefore, our new Hot Topic question asks, "Which type of mine would you not mind living near?" The choices given are: base metals, coal, diamonds, gold or uranium, or "No, I wouldn't want to live close to any of these types of mines." The poll question last week was: 'Should mining companies make public the greenhouse gas emissions from their mines and mineral processing facilities today?' There was a split decision, with half the voters saying Yes, and half saying No. Twenty percent said they work at a mineral-producing site, 17% work at a mining company head office, and 63% do not work for a mineral producer. Interestingly, Yes/No votes were split for each of those three groups, as well. Thanks very much for sharing your opinions.
