ONTARIO - LIBERTY MINES of Edmonton has begun construction of the McWatters underground nickel mine 29 km southeast of Timmins. The announcement comes as the company received approval of its closure plan and various permits for the project.

Development of the sills from the upper levels while the ramp is completed to the 130-m level will provide 300-500 t/d of pre-production ore beginning in March or April 2008. Full production from the mine at 1,200-1,300 t/d is scheduled for early Q3 2008. Ore will be concentrated at Liberty's Redstone mill, located 9.5 km to the west at the Redstone mine site. Liberty is shipping its Redstone concentrate to XSTRATA NICKEL's smelting and refining facilities in Sudbury, Ont.

An updated resource calculation for the McWatters mine is expected in January 2008. Meanwhile, Liberty is stepping up exploration of the Hart deposit midway between McWatters and Redstone, in the hope of creating a third nickel mine.

More information about all three projects is available at www.LibertyMines.com.
